I was born and raised in Havana, Cuba and now I live in Florida with my wife and two sons. My photographic works had been awarded many prizes and exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions.
My paintings have the transparency of oils, the fluidity of watercolors and the permanence and fast drying quality of acrylics. In addition,I create multiple layers of transparencies using chemicals as photo developers and bleaches, resulting in dynamic forms that interact with each other. This process leads to marvelous organic shapes that will serve as playground for my imaginary beings.
The descriptive word for my art has not been invented. I call it Tintagraphy -tinta=ink, graphy=field of study -because I looked at hundreds of names that could describe what I do but since is so new is not on the dictionary yet.
So how to describe my art? SUBLIME. def. to convert something inferior into something of higher worth.
Yes, I apply inks to printer photo paper. I paint on the blank paper. This is inferior. The inks flow inside the emulsion of the paper creating natural patterns and organic shapes that cannot be reproduced in any other medium. And that is something of higher worth.
I do not know if this medium was used before I did. For the last 3 years I've been trying to reach other artists with the same interest and found none. Nevertheless, I continue to explore and experiment its potential. I love the transparency and tonalities of the colors. This new medium complements my expressionistic tendencies in art. I enjoy what I create and hope you feel the same.
